Callibration Services

NIST Traceable Calibration Services

Sensing Devices LLC has been providing a steady increase in calibration services since 1986. SDI’s commitment to Platinum Thermometry and customer support continued in 1997, with the upgrade of the metrology equipment and lab services. Current capabilities include calibration of SPRT’s, IPRT’s, Sub-assemblies, and bare elements on the International Scale of 1990 (ITS-90).

System calibrations which include a thermometer and readout instrument can also be performed. This type of system calibration can allow the user to reduce measurement uncertainty or to simply verify a system’s accuracy.

SDI performs all calibrations with primary standards directly traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Below is a typical list of equipment used while performing in-house calibration services.

EquipmentTemperature RangeStability
(Typically Better Than)
Liquid Nitrogen (LN2)Approx. -196 °C .007 to .015 °C
EDL Cryo-Cal 2 -80 to -196 °C .010 to .035 °C
Fluke/Hart 7080 -80 to 110 °C .015 to .003 °C
Fluke/Hart 6020 40 to 300 °C .001 to .005 °C
Isotech 915 -65 to 300 °C .001 to .007 °C
Fluke/Hart 6050H 180 to 550 °C .002 to .008 °C
Ice Baths 0.000 °C .0005 to .001 °C
Triple Point of Water 0.010 °C .0003 to .0005 °C
Pond Eng. K34C 100 to 670°C .002 to .005 °C

Laboratory Procedures and Guidelines

SDI ensures quality calibration services through documented procedures and guidelines, which help establish repeatable and reproducible results. SDI has adopted NIST TN 1265 & BIPM’s “Techniques for Approximating the ITS-90” for our laboratory practices. In addition, where appropriate, various standards and guide practices from ASTM are used.

Metrology Equipment

Automatic Systems Laboratories’ F17 AC Resistance Thermometry Bridges with respective switch/channel boxes.

Automatic Systems Laboratories’ Integrated Software which allows for PC communication and control of the bridges and channel boxes on a remote basis.

Isotech’s MicroK Primary Standard Thermometry Bridge with respective switch/channel boxes with built-in software for calibrating SPRT’s, ISPRT’s, Thermocouples, and Thermistors.

Standard Platinum Resistance Thermometers(SPRT’s)

SDI uses both Rosemount 162CEs and Fluke/Hart 5699s as our primary temperature standards.

Fixed Standard Reference Resistors (FSRR’s)

SDI uses Tinsley’s “Wilkins” style fixed resistors as our primary resistance standards.
